Dear Sara, Love Court

Edge PAC, Marylou, and Spirit Guides (day 5)

Since I’ve been feeling a little out of sorts lately, and I had a free Saturday off from work, I decided to meet my New York dance friend, Marylou, for a Jazz 3 class at the Edge Performing Arts Center in LA. It’s right next to a giant Gold’s Gym (which is apparently a very popular gym chain in LA). I remember watching a video on steroids in my Psychology of Addiction class last year, and a bunch of body builders in it trained at a Gold’s Gym (except it was the one located in Venice, not the one next to the dance studio). I just kept seeing body builder after body builder enter and exit the gym. Very entertaining.

Anyways, the class was pretty challenging, but it had dancers of various skill levels, so I felt okay. The warm-up was also different from what I’m used to because the teacher played tribal/African music, rather than pop music like Grant typically plays, and she incorporated movements that seemed more contemporary than jazz-like. Unfortunately, the teacher taught the choreography way too fast for me, so I was unable to learn it all. Hopefully, if I take her class again, I’ll be able to get used to her style and be able to do the choreo at the end.

After class, Marylou and I drove back to the adorable little house she’s renting in Venice and walked over to Abbot Kinney (where Donnajo and I went a few times over the summer to shop and eat). We had a delicious brunch at 3 Square Cafe and then met her friend from Austin, Texas who is currently a fashion photographer. She inspired me to get an SLR camera for Christmas instead of an iPad. We also talked about the LA dating scene, and apparently the men are good looking but they think that LA women are jaded, so they don’t approach them. I wonder if there is a city that actually does have a good dating scene… you know, where men actually take their dates out to dinner and don’t expect anything but a peck on the cheek, and then people date for a little while until they realize they should both look for better people and the sea actually remains filled with eligible fish.

I also ended up spending money I don’t have on a 15-minute session with a psychic who channeled Spirit Guides because Marylou’s friend had gone to this place earlier and liked the guy that did her Tarot reading. I didn’t really have a question to ask this woman (Well, I did, but I didn’t want to say it out loud. She never answered it), so she just gave me a general reading of what my Spirit Guides were saying to me. Apparently, I have a Panda spirit guide, she said I could Google it to see what that means. This is what I found.. “So like the Panda we can sit, slow down, observe and contemplate to help us move ahead with clear thoughts. Some other keywords for Panda energy include: rarity, vegetarianism, polarity, willpower, solitude, privacy, sacred space, intuition, perspective, gentleness, strength, flexibility, modesty, economy.” Anyways, she basically said the Spirit Guides want me to really start following my intuition and keep my mind open to opportunities. I think my intuition is telling me I shouldn’t have spent that $35. I’m glad I actually got to take a dance class with Marylou, though!

And, now it’s back to reading.
